Four Amazing Cars at the Detroit Auto Show

The 2019 North American International Auto Show (AKA the Detroit Auto Show) came and went this January with plenty of fanfare, new car debuts, and reintroductions to some old favorites. The first major car show of the year, the Detroit Auto Show sets the tone for what brands are set to unveil in the coming months and there’s always a few auto manufacturers that have a few tricks up their proverbial sleeves during these events.

This year was no exception, as we saw the captain of the Motor City, Ford, come to play with some exceptional exhibits and releases. Not to be outdone, Toyota poured on the nostalgia-heavy with their showing of the Supra and KIA introduced their shiny new SUV entry.

These three brands stood out the most and created the most buzz during the 2019 North American International Auto Show, leading the way for these four amazing cars at the Detroit Auto Show we want to highlight.

2020 Toyota Supra

We’ve been talking about the possibility of a Toyota Supra comeback for some time now. We’ve heard rumors about its potential existence going back a couple years ago, we’ve seen the secretive model mock-ups and now, it’s finally here. Toyota is bringing back the wildly popular performance coupe that we last saw a new model for in 2002 and showed the world it was back, with a commercial during Super Bowl 53.

The 2020 Toyota Supra is set to go on sale later this year, with a starting MSRP of $49,990 that was just announced during the auto show. Premium and the Limited Edition Launch versions will set you back 53K and 55K respectively, but die-hard Supra enthusiasts that have grown up may have no problem paying that price to recapture the thrills of their youth.

The Supra looks sleek and aggressive as ever, and its 3.0L six-cylinder turbocharged engine backs those looks up, producing 335 horsepower to get you where you need to go, fast. The interior also boasts some nice comforts as the Premium trim and up will get you leather seating, a JBL premium sound system and navigation.

We’re incredibly excited to see this starting to hit the road and Toyota looks to be just excited to roll these out, thus topping our list of standouts from the Detroit Auto Show.

2020 KIA Telluride

Making a splash during Super Bowl 53, we saw the 2020 KIA Telluride touchdown at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show to much praise from consumers and experts alike. KIA’s largest SUV to date, the seven-passenger Telluride is more than just your typical family hauler.

The Telluride comes loaded with some of the most advanced safety tech on the market in an SUV, including advanced blind spot monitoring, advanced lane departure warning, brake assist and oh yeah, semi-autonomous driving with its Highway Driving Assist feature.

Pricing was not announced during the Detroit Auto Show, but we should see some numbers in the near future.

The Telluride also boasts an impressive infotainment system that features the familiar Apple CarPlay compatibility and stunning, rugged good looks that rival that of some of the more pricer SUVs on the road. KIA seems to be hitting some pretty high notes during the past few years with the Stinger and now the Telluride, which adds some much-needed attitude to KIAs lineup of vehicles.

2020 Ford Explorer ST

2020 Ford Explorer

Move over Durango SRT, there’s a new American performance SUV in town. Easily the top-selling third-row SUV on the market, the Ford Explorer has thrived for years in a crowded SUV landscape. However, it’s been quite some time since the Ford Explorer got a complete redesign from top to bottom (not since 2011) but Ford finally got around to it when they unveiled their 2020 version of the Explorer.

Particularly notable is the ST model, which replaces the Sport trim in the Explorer trim hierarchy and packs some serious performance punch.

The ST delivers 400 hp from a twin-turbo V6 engine and gets up to 60 MPH in a spritely 6.7 seconds. At under $60K, it’s the fastest SUV on the market according to Ford.

On the inside, the first thing you’ll notice is the Explorer’s big 10.1 inch Tesla-esque tablet/infotainment system mounted to the center dash on certain trims. Other than that, this Explorer features upgraded safety features, bold new styling and of course, some killer tech.

The Explorer is set to go on sale later this year, starting at a base price of around $33K.

2020 Ford Shelby GT500

Last but certainly not least, we have another Motor City modern classic, the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. The Mustang has always been a staple in American muscle cars and Ford finally has the answer to combat Dodge and their 700+ HP Hellcat line, with a bruising speed demon of its own.

The Shelby GT500 is said to hit around a blistering 720 hp, although those numbers have yet to be confirmed by Ford. That’ll get you from 0-60 in around 3 seconds flat. Better grab that seat if you’re a passenger.

Other than heart-stopping performance, the Mustang aesthetically looks every bit as intimidating as its V8 producing horsepower suggests. Striking design lines, an aggressive front grille and large rear spoilers make the Mustang one of the sickest rides at the Detroit Auto Show by a mile.

Electric cars and hybrids have been the talk of the town for a while now, but every now and then you need a reminder that we still like a loud, high revving, rumbling muscle car. And no car embodies that car better than the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.
